Introduction To The FormatMaster
────────────────────────────────
The DJS FormatMaster is a program that makes formatting in DOS easier and
more attractive. The DOS FORMAT command has a variety of command line
options that individualize the floppy you are formatting. For example,
you may want to format a 5.25 360K floppy on a high density drive. There
is a command line option for the FORMAT command that allows you to do this.
Because entering command line options can be complicated and confusing, this
program makes the task a lot easier.
General Rules For The Program
─────────────────────────────
DJS FormatMaster will only work correctly if you are using MS-DOS 5.0 or
later. Later versions of DOS will most likely have the same command line
options as version 5, so this program will work with any additional
versions.
There are a few files that the program needs in order to operate correctly.
The required data files have different extensions to prevent anyone from
accidentally deleting them or renaming them. The files that MUST remain on
the same directory with DJSFM are :
SCR.░░░ & REG.░░░
Some versions of this program do not need the REG.░░░ data file. If this
file does not exist and the program operates correctly, then you do not
need this file. If a data file is damaged or missing, then the program
will respond with an error message.
To use the program, you must also have some type of color monitor. MONO
monitors will not be able to display the menu screen correctly.
Using The Program
─────────────────
DJSFM has a certain number of commands that are all displayed on the menu
screen at the same time. There are two types of commands. The first type
of commands are OPTIONS. Option commands are located on the main menu and
are represented by purple high-lighted letters. To change an option, press
the colored letter of the setting you wish to change. The second type of
commands are REGULAR. Regular commands are located at the bottom of the
screen. ESC, F1, and F2 are the regular commands.
To use this program, you should have a general knowledge of the FORMAT
command in DOS. You can automatically change the label of the formatted
disk by entering the label on the main menu. You can quickly modify the
format command line. This program simply helps you generate a command line
faster than you normally could.
Some Final Notes
────────────────
* This program requires a color monitor, at least 512k RAM, and will work
best with a 286 or higher.
* This program has been tested numerous times to eliminate bugs. There
should not be any bugs in the program, but if you happen to run across
any, it would be appreciated if you would let me know.
* This program assumes that there is a path to the subdirectory where the
DOS FORMAT program is located. This way the command can be entered on
any disk or directory.
